Eiko’s Bucket

Eiko’s Bucket is part book and part movement. I wrote this book with the intention of making it free, or as low cost as possible, to spread the idea that I had. The idea is simple… instead of encouraging children with special needs to carry a blue pumpkin bucket on Halloween, we can encourage people giving out treats to post a sign saying all trick-or-treaters are welcome there. The story explains some of the many reasons that some children may behave differently from what is typically expected, and outlines how we can all make sure that every kid who wants to trick-or-treat can be welcome to do so

Sophie’s friend Eiko really wants a firetruck bucket to go with his firefighter Halloween costume. But his special education teacher has given him a blue pumpkin bucket, which is supposed to let people know that he has special needs and might behave differently. Sophie knows how disappointed Eiko will be when he finds out. Is there another way to get people to be kind to all trick-or-treaters, and make Halloween fun for every kid who wants to celebrate it? Sophie thinks she has a plan!
